Heavy loads & high performance for Sadara Complex

January 2015 - Sadara Chemical Company is constructing one of the world's largest chemicals complexes in Jubail Industrial City in Al Sharqiya, Saudi Arabia, located about 100km north-west of the city of Dammam.

The fully integrated complex will consist of 26 chemical manufacturing units and be one of the largest of its kind in the world. It will produce about 1.5 million tons per annum (mtpa) of ethylene and about 400,000tpa of propylene.

A major share of the development was awarded to T├ęcnicas Reunidas (TR) covering the Chem-III project scope which includes plants for six products and auxiliary- / control-facilities. TR performs detailed engineering and procurement services, supply the equipment and materials, construct the plants and provide support during commissioning of the units. The plants are scheduled to be operational during 2015.

BBC Chartering was awarded the transport of a 400 ton heavy heat exchanger unit and additional equipment from Mumbai, India to Jubial, Saudi Arabia. The award of this transport project reinforces the competitive position of BBC Chartering as one of the most trusted names in the industry when it comes to secure highest levels of shipping performance for time critical heavy cargos.

The heat exchanger was transported on board the BBC Fuji, a compact 9,300 dwt heavy lift vessel featuring lifting capacities up to 700mt. BBC Chartering currently operates eight vessels of this type amongst its fleet of currently about 150 vessels.
