BBC and DYT form Yacht Transport Alliance
DYT Increases Destinations and Schedule Flexibility with BBC Alliance
FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA (October 26, 2007) -- Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) has announced a cooperative partnership with BBC Chartering & Logistic to expand global shipping options for its clients -- owners and captains of private luxury yachts. The strategic alliance allows DYT to continue offering its unique float-on/float-off yacht transport service with its own fleet of four semi-submersible ships while adding an alternative lift-on/lift-off service option through BBC, which operates more than 140 vessels worldwide.
DYT's float-on/float-off method, which has been raised to somewhat of an art form since we developed it in 1987, is used by no other yacht carriers," said DYT President Clemens van der Werf, adding that the company built its recently commissioned super ship, the 685.7-foot (209 meters) Yacht Express, to meet the demand for more DYT transport trips across the Atlantic. The reality, however, is that there will always be clients who need additional scheduling flexibility or the ability to get to a destination we do not service directly. They have come to trust DYT's expertise and depend on our standards for safety and attention to details. BBC is a powerhouse in global shipping; while it provides the tonnage, DYT will manage their operations for the yacht transport business, offering our clients extra sailings and more flexibility.
While yachts are similar to other heavy-lift cargo with respect to the necessary lifting gear, they also require a greater sensitivity with respect to the lift and stowage, said Svend Andersen, BBC's CEO. "This is why the DYT/BBC alliance is ideal for the yacht transport industry. BBC has the specialized vessels and equipment, while DYT has the extended knowledge base for managing the loading and unloading of such precious cargo from start to finish, with its own loading masters provided for all operations.
Among the new regular routes accommodated by BBC will be regular connections from the Caribbean to Northern Europe, Florida to Brazil, and to Dubai. All other worldwide requests can also be accommodated.
DYT's global routes for its semi-submersibles currently include the U.S. East Coast (Newport, Rhode Island and Port Everglades, Florida), the Mediterranean (Toulon, France; Genoa, Italy; Marmaris, Turkey; Palma de Mallorca, Spain), Northern Europe (La Rochelle and Cherbourg, France), the Caribbean (St. Thomas, Martinique), the Pacific West Coast (Golfito, Costa Rica; La Paz and Ensenada, Mexico and Vancouver, B.C., Canada) and the South Pacific (Papeete, Tahiti; Auckland, New Zealand and Brisbane, Australia).

Since its maiden voyage in 1987, the company has transported over 8,000 motor and sailing yachts to various destinations around the globe, offering owners and charterers safe and easy access to many of the world’s premier cruising grounds. Cyprus / Germany: UFS – Major ship owners launch own bunker utility
The newly founded company United Fuel Services (UFS) is the exclusive bunker supplier of the BBC fleet
The longer reach:
One-stop bunkering for Briese, Hartmann and Schoeller
Since this year’s spring the Shipping Companies owned by Briese Group of Companies, Schoeller Holdings and the Hartmann Group of Companies have centralized their fuel requirements: from now on any marine fuel demand concerning any vessel belonging to the referred groups will be purchased exclusively through their own bunker unit: UFS – United Fuel Services.
Well known for decades of experienced and powerful shipping, these major owners now joint their interests gaining an even longer reach in the bunker market. Asked for their incentive, the group’s representatives stay decent: simply “just reasoning” is what the answer is. UFS itself retains to what these companies stand for: reliability, efficiency, knowledge and tradition. Operating worldwide, UFS is German-based, with its office in Bremen. The highly skilled and experienced staff truly is committed to what you could call a kind of “Hanseatic way of bunkering”.

BBC upgrades Andino Express
BBC Chartering & Logistic has upgraded its Gulf-West Coast South America service with a new vessel dedicated to the trade route.
The BBC Weser joined the Andino Express Line earlier this month, departing Houston on the trade lane's southbound leg to Esmeraldas-Guayaquil, Callao, Ilo, Antofagasta, Valparaiso-San Antonio and Talcahuano-San Vincente. The northbound leg is scheduled to begin on Feb. 26 in Talcahuano-San Vincente.
BBC launched the Andino Express in April 2005 as a one-way service every three weeks from Housotn to ports in Ecuador, Peru and Chile. Within the first year, the service expanded to fulfill contract business out of Argentina and was upgraded to biweekly calls.
With 40 new ships coming online for BBC between until 2009, the 17,300-ton BBC Weser was among the first new vessels christened end of last year. The vessel is equipped with a trio of 80-ton cranes that are combinable on lifts up to 160 tons. Three hatches cover a hold capacity of 766,187 cbft.
Rider Griswold, president of BBC USA, said the multipurpose carrier solicited the container market to bolster traditional breakbulk shiploads, which include resupplying the mining and oi- and gas industries in South America.
"We are now going to promote our northbound service," Griswold said. BBC Keeps two to three vessels in the Andino service, dedicating the Weser and then pulling from its fleet for the other vessel or vessels on the route.
